I have an Onkyo HT-550R Home theatre package, and the powered sub has started doing something weird. When the receiver is off, the sub will start a low rumbling that gets progressively louder -- almost like a feedback loop. It will do this for a while, then it will stop. The problem happened a few times before, but it seems to be getting worse. If you turn on the receiver, it instantly stops. I'm thinking that maybe it is picking up and amplifying the 60cycle from the AC? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
yeah, it seems fine. When I unplug it and plug it in again, it's fine again. until the next time it decides to start rumbling on its own -- which is usually around 2am.
I just recently had my paradigm servo 15 in for service, it did somewhat of the same thing, now I cant presume the make up internally for your sub, but mine had a accelerometer that went bad, that was diagnosed after 2 amps, and 1 new woofer, if you have a dealer in your area maybe give them a call, or see what you can do for service, sounds to me like something on the power side of amp, but could be something internally too? good luck, and maybe you can get one of these guys here that may have another idea of what it could be. Sounds like a ground loop hum to me. Kinda wondering if you live in an aprtment or if there is a cable TV neighborhhod signal relay close by. ARe you using any sort of line conditioner surge protection on that sub? Try a different outlet if possible.

good tip Marc, a line conditioner will make everything all right again. My $1200 Panamax sure does.
Nope, it's a house in the middle of nowhere...we don't even have cable. It's all hooked up to a Dishnetwork satellite. I will try another outlet, but I'm pretty sure they're all on the same circuit.
addendum: Tonight, for the first time, the sub started doing it's humming thing while the receiver was powered up and sound was coming out of it. When I unplugged the audio line in, it stopped.
