It's been years since have looked at speakers and find I'm a bit out of date. So could use some help. The problem: need to find a pair of audio speakers that sound good at low volume that can cover a fairly large space(about 25'x 40') This is a dining area in a nursing home. The reciever is of midrange quality but low power I'm guessing 30watts a chanel rms at this point what we have is what we have. the current speakers are old fullrange jobs in the ceiling. The goal is to fill the space with music but be unobtrusive. while dinning. That can produce more volume for other occasions. Here is the real problem 300 to 400 dollar budget to work with. small towers that can be hung or bookshelfs would be best. thanks

hmm, sounds like you need a speaker with +90db sensitivity

Normally I would not recommend these since they have far too little bass for my tastes without a sub, but for a nursing home I would think that punchy bass might not be in too great demand:

Or if you don't need such a refined sound, you can get these speakers which pack a bit more bass:

If you live near a Tweeter or Fry's you can go look at this one, not as much bang for your buck as the others and slightly lower sensitivity, but attractive cabinets if that matters at all:

All of these are wall-mountable using these:

Thanks Edster did check out the ascend web sight and they would be right on the money for the music and type of acoustics I had in mind. Plus looks to me like a upgrade of MY home ststem is long over due. Many thanks again music brings many of these people so much and lookes like I can enhance that a little more for them now.

glad to help, best of luck.

BTW, if you can wait until mid-January, Ascend is coming out with an SE version of their speakers, maybe $30 more per pair but with totally new drivers that are supposed to be much better plus add about 10Hz of extra bass.
