I have recently bought a second hand turntable. It works fine at low/medium volumes but when I turn it up, a kind of dddddddd noise appears-and drowns out the music. why is this? Also there is no earth wire on the turntable could this be the problem?how immportant is the earth wire and whats it for?
It sounds as if you have acoustic feedback causing your "dddddddddd" sound. Isolating the turntable will help the problem if that is the case. Most turntables and cartridges require a ground wire. Not all will need the wire as the cartridge is grounded through the signal leads. If you are not hearing a 60Hz ground hum at all times, your table is OK concerning ground wires.
