Speaker wire/banana plug problems

i recently bought some new banana plugs off ebay (gls audio) but when i screw the wire into them i find that the wire comes out with just a little pull. is this normal, or should i fold the wire (it is 14 gauge), or just screw tighter?
also are banana plugs usually used when connecting the speaker wire to the speakers or should i connect directly from the wire? thanks a bunch everyone

screw tighter, that's just the price you pay for getting them at less than 50% local retail.

Use the bananas to the speakers if you often A/B different speakers and need to do a lot of unplugging and replugging.

ok. should work considering there is no pulling of the wire if the speakers just sit there.
Also i only use my setup in one room so would it be better to use bananas or connect directly to the speaker?

Fold the wire. Then tighten up the screw(s) using a fair amount of pressure.

A tight metal to metal contact is needed to get a big area of mechanical contact. A sloppy connection allows more oxidation.

Direct connection is probably better though.
