I am buying a pair of skylan stands. My speakers are 8" wide, and I can get the top plate customized to any size. Do I get the actual width or do I go a little under, say 7", in case of future upgrades and the speakers are more narrow? Thanks for any help
Actually the top plate of the speaker stands don't necessarily have to be of the exact same width as your speakers...as long as your speakers don't weight 100lbs and the stand is well constructed to be stable and strong, you could easily have an inch or two narrower top plate on each side of the top plate. Most people Blue-Tac (I know Jan doesn't like this method) their speakers to their stands which forms a pretty strong and safe bond anyways. As long as your kids don't play tackle football in your listening room you should be fine.

Actually, if you were being honest, you would have to say that the overwhelming majority of Jan's posts contain a wealth of information of substance which is useful and helpful to many on this forum. I don't agree with Jan's position on many things, e.g., differences in amplifier sound, etc., and much of what he says is over my head, but as far as I can tell, he does not go out of his way to disparage other folks and the choices they've made in audio gear. Paul, on the other hand, does go out of his way to do so.
It is simply that Jan, like quite a few others on this forum have grown weary of the inane, smart-alec and unhelpful comments by your soulmate Paul. On the other hand (again, if your were being honest, which you're not) if you want to single out someone on this forum whose posts are 90% lacking in substance and 90% intending to insult other forum members, single out Paul. If you were honest.
Yeah, Jimvm. A wealth of frequently irrelevant info. Paul shoots it straight. He doesn't try to hide his biases under technical language. Jan can give plenty of "white papers", but he can't answer a simple question. Choose your poison.
A simple question: Has Wiley suddenly become the most insultingly worthless contributor to this forum?
A "White Paper" answer: Undoubtedly!
Wiley, what is it with you? Are you just following me around to make insulting comments? You have had nothing to say that has amounted to anything intelligent. You dislike others who can answer a question without resorting to insults. No wonder you find comradery with the likes of p.
Please, wiley, some of us are trying to conduct a conversation. If you have nothing to contribute, stay out of the way.

Quite frankly, I didn't expect an honest answer from you. What I expected from you was dishonesty and the continued sycophancy -- and you didn't disappoint me.
Ya know, I don't have a problem with someone who "shoots it straight" or someone who "doesn't try to hide his biases under technical language." What I do have a problem with, as do many others on this forum, is someone who intentionally, without provocation and with obvious malice, goes out of his way to sling insults toward others. One whose repeated use of derisive terms to describe not only the choices people make in their audio gear but the people themselves. One who does so repeatedly, even after people have asked him to give it a rest. There's no doubt that if Paul stopped his insulting remarks, others would stop responding with insulting remarks. But, if he chooses to continue, he can be sure that others will respond in kind. And you can go right on trying to defend the indefensible.
ed - You have misread several of my comments. I am not pushing you to favor the NAD over the Panasonic. I am asking you to listen and understand why you find one more appealing than the other.
As to the BluTak and stands, I neither favor the use of BluTak nor do I argue against its usage. I argue for experimenting with the various options available until you are satisfied with the sound you achieve. My HT speakers are cemented to their stands with a VPI brick cemented to their top side. However, I found the Lings did not offer their best sound when I followed suit with them.
My argument is against following a practice merely because someone else told you it worked for them in their system. Experiment and listen; then choose for yourself which is best.
The only thing being insulted is the HT audio when it's forced to play through tiny undersized speakers. You should consider yourself lucky you arent taken to court for fraud for impostering a come cinema.
yes, we have to do it to get the mentally ill off our streets and Internet forums...

Petty minds full of gas and no substance. Attack others with whom you disagree. Pathetic.
