Help. I have a set of 5.1 Pioneer speakers(it was part of htib system)and I'm needing to buy a new receiver. How do I choose a receiver that will work with these speakers? Thanks
Depends on whether your speakers have a dedicated or proprietary connection scheme. If not, almost any 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 receiver will do assuming its wattage is consistent with what your speakers can handle. Do a Google search on how to choose a receiver or check a site like CNET.com.
Make sure the impedences match also. They are usually indicated by a number (mainly 8, 6, or 4) followed by the greek symbol/letter for omega - looks like an O with the bottom missing.
If the impedences don't match, you could damage the receiver.

Thanks for your input. But how do I know if it's dedicated or proprietary connected?
If each speaker has an unconnected separate positive and negative terminal it is not dedicated. If it has one or two wires that connect all speakers together it is dedicated and requires certain receivers or adapters for connection.
