Receiver VS Pre-Amp .......for music only.

Hello everyone,

For what I have read in this forum, a Pre- Amp + Amp set up is better than a Multi-Channel receiver + amp, for music only. Now, before I invest $600.00 more on a NAD C-162, Could someone please help me to better understand how much the sound will improve? If it were possible to measure such improvement in a 1-5 scale (5 being the best) what would be the grade? (Just trying to put it in perspective)
My current set up consists of:
P.E. VSX 53
NAD C-270
Polk RTi12 (Fronts)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It is all relative so it would be difficult to use a 1-5 scale. For me the difference is near total. It's the difference between listening to seperates and listening to a sub par receiver. Not your receiver in particular, but most AVR's are simply not very good at reproducing 2 channel music. Check my profile to see my setup and if have any questions about hookup feel free to ask on this forum, thread, or email me. I love my C162.
