Receiver Pre-Outs to External Amp - Smart or Dumb?

Does anyone recommend using the receiver pre-outs, rather than the integrated amps on Denon 3805 or Yamaha 2500 receivers, to amplify a 5.1 set of PSB speakers? I have a pair of Carver Silver-7t mono blocks for the front mains, then a pair of Carver TFM-15CBs for the center (bridged) and the rears (R & L). The Carver amps are solid and smooth, so I do not want to sacrifice them. Before I purchase a US$1,000 receiver, I wanted your thoughts on using external amps vs. receiver amps.

I would recommend it!
I don't see anything wrong with using the Denon or Yamaha as a pre-amp/processor. I wouldn't want to give up those Carvers myself.
cheers

Thanks! Help me further understand...the pre-out bypass the internal receiver amps; thereby, allowing the sonic qualities of the Carver amps to shine on. Correct?

I would tend to agree. I am using a Kenwood KRF-X9080D receiver and it is mated to 5 Outlaw Audio MBlock power amps.
