Trying to decide between marantz sr7400 or sr6400. Apart from few features like dolby IIx, 7/6.1 and wattage is there any other significant difference between these two like sonic qualities , or difference in dsp chipset.I want to buy something which would last me for several years without need for upgrade. I will be driving these with MA silvers. Thanks

Tried to decypher same issues - chose 7400 for Component Switching + ability to do 7.1 in future (incidentally, 7.1 or Rear 2 can be used as "powered" zone in another room. Thus in effect you conceivably can get main 5.1 + 2 addl zones of music though using 7.1 as amplified zone will = main - OK for Great/Living Room & Dinning Room; I'm using for powered zone in my Office for extra TV since if I'm not in Great Room its not on!
Final analysis, do you need 7.1 or will 5.1 or 6.1 do? Price/Power differential not really significant at this level. Can't tell if it really gets hotter though.
