Run a cable from there to the back of your str-de. plug it into a red and white jack located under TV/DBS or DVD/LD, above the red and white jacks are yellow jacks. Right above the yellow jack you needd to make sure it says video in. then plug it in and on the front of the reciever you need to press the corresponing button, (DVD/LD or TV/DBS) which ever one you choose to plug into. |

If you are going to hook up a DVD player, connect it directly to the TV using component video cables and the audio output of the DVD connects directly to the receiver. |

Do you want the Sony to connect (video out) to the TV (video in)(to do On Screen Display or some other reason) or do you want the TV (audio out) to connect to the Sony? If you want the latter, you would be better to just connect the audio source separately to the Sony (satellite or cable audio out to Sony; DVD audio out to Sony, CD audio out to Sony and/or VCR audio out to Sony). |

Component video is the 3 video green/blue/red plug. Your digital inputs on are the right side (optical at top and coaxial at the bottom), all of the red, white and yellow in the top middle are composite. The component is at the top just to the left of your front speaker binding posts. If you want to connect your tv to the Sony, use the first composite to the left with TV/SAT under it for inputs. To go OUT to the TV with video, use the outputs right to the left of the top middle which say Monitor. You can use a composite yellow or an S-Video which is a pin plug. (Just to the right of Video 1 at the top). I could not call up your image of the Dell but, if you could hypertext it, I could let you know the Dell inputs/outputs to use. |

Silver Member Username: JonmoonPost Number: 174 Registered: Dec-03 | It helps a bit. The Dell has both component and s-video connections. "What is the difference if you connect my TV to the Sony, or the Sony to the TV ?" When you connect the Sony to the TV, you are providing video from the Sony to the TV. This needs to be done if you want to use an On Screen Display (some receivers put a set up menu on video so you can see it on your TV). Also, some people like to use the receiver as a central hub to direct all audio and video sources through. I can't think of a reason to send the audio signal from the receiver out to the TV. Connecting the TV to the Sony is sending the TV audio to the receiver. I can't think of a reason to send the video signal from the TV to the receiver. Generally, if you are watching TV, you are getting your TV audio and video from another source: DVD, Satellite, Cable or VCR. Those sources have audio outs which can go directly to your receiver. So if you want to watch TV from a cable source, you can have the cable box run audio and video feeds to your TV and then run another audio line to your receiver (into the digital input either coaxial or optical OR just into the TV/SAT rca composite inputs). With that set up, you can watch TV and listen through the TV (if it has speakers) with or without the receiver. I tend usually to watch TV without the receiver unless the sound is enhanced for premium channels like HBO. You can do the same thing for the DVD and VCR. They usually have more than 1 audio output. Then you can have the choice of having the receiver on or not. My set up has that except for the VCR which is only connected to the receiver because I ran out of inputs on the TV. In your set up, if you are connecting the Sony to the Dell for video, I would use the component connection first, if you can't do that, use the S-Video, and if you can't use that, use the RCA composite. The problem you are going to run into is that your TV doen't have a lot of inputs. I would want to go the highest video resolution from Satellite and DVD to the TV (the component inputs), the sound you want the highest quality from the Satellite and DVD to the receiver (Digital optical or coaxial). Then you can run the Sony S-Video to the TV for On Screen Display if you need it. The DVD and Satellite can run composite (RCAs) sound (red and white) to the TV and you will be all set. Hope this is not too confusing. |
