Receiver audio-out question

Newbie question: Can you use one of the audio line outputs from an A/V receiver to connect an additional set of speakers (for example, in a different room) by running a cable from the primary receiver (with audio line output) to a separate receiver (solely to power the additional set of speakers)? If so, can you listen to the same source in the main room and separate room, or is it an "either or" deal. Thanks.

Obviously, if the receiver has "A/B" speakers switching or multiroom capabilities this is not a problem. However, I have seen some receivers which don't have the above, but do have audio line outputs.
