I have a HK avr 320. It shuts down within 5 seconds when the suround sound is turned on. The stereo works fine,,,does not shut down with long use. Is there some easy fix? The guy at FRYS told me it was a common problem and a easy fix. My warranty lapsed before I took it too the shop. They now want $250 to repair it! Any advice?
Unplug everything but the fronts and change to a surround mode, if the unit shuts down it must be a channel amplifier or another internal power problem. If not check the centre and surround speaker connections. I had one single copper speaker wire thread on a surround speaker touching the other terminal and that would shut the receiver down. Check your speaker wire connections. Plug the three remaining speakers in one at a time and swap them to determine if there is a short in a speaker.
