Speaker spikes - worthwhile

Unregistered guest
I have floor standing speakers placed on a tiled floor. My new magnat speakers have floor spikes and a what looks like a ten cent piece to mount on. The tiles are slightly uneven which means the speakers don't stand flat. Is it worthwhile using the spikes or using something else.

You should be able to set the speaker up so that it does not rock. The spikes usually have a lock nut, so here's what you do to set up the speaker correctly:

Once you've found the best place to pput the speakers in the room, screw in the spikes (with lock nut) all the way into the speaker and stand it on the ten cent pieces. Then check which way it rocks. Loosen the appropriate spike until the speaker does not rock any more. Now use a spirit level to set up the speaker to be absolutely dead level. Tighten the lock nuts so the spikes don't work loose. Ensure the speaker does not rock again and adjust appropriately.

Taking a little time to go through this procedure will ensure that you get the best from your speakers, it only costs you a little time after all.

Regards,
Frank.
