i am wondering what the correct way to setup my subwoofer's gain control. i understand that its not to be used as a volume knob to merely get more bass and its supposed to match to volume ouput of the receiver.....but what does that really mean? how am i supposed to know that the gain is matching the volume output of my reciever? also....the crossover is set at like 100 Hz. is this a good place to have it for 6 1/2" speakers? i know it needs to be set higher for smaller speakers but is that too high?

What you want to do is have the sub volume up to just below the point at which it sounds like a seperate sound source on loud, low passages. Dial it up to where you can hear it, then back it down some.

That crossover frequency is a good starting point. You may end up higher or lower according to how low your main speakers can comfortably play.

These things will take some trial & error on your part until it's just right.
