Hi, I currently own a receiver from yamaha which is the RX-V350 and the speakers Klipsch RF-35. On the yamaha website, the receiver is only stated as beeing a 6ohms and on Klipsch's website, it says that the impedance is 8 ohms compatible, so am I correct with that, am I going to blow the receiver or the speakers?? I'd need some help please! Thanks!
As long as speaker impedance is bigger or equal than the lowest suggested impedance for the receiver there will be no problems. 8 ohm speakers are an easy load for any receiver.
landroval is right. I'll just add that the impedance of speakers varies with frequency. It's not a constant. For example, I've heard that the top-of-the-line in the Klipsch Reference line, the RF-7, drops to 3 ohms at some frequency even if rated as an 8 ohm speaker. It therefore sounds best on high-current amps, as if it were a 4-ohm speaker.
