say i wanted to have 2 seperate cd players hooked up to the one amp which only has one cd input, is there any way of purchasing an a/b switch that would allow me to do this without having to continually change the connections to switch between players?

thanks

You don't have to use the CD input necessarily to connect a cd player.
You can also use the AUX and TAPE inputs.

So in your case: CD for cd player1 and AUX or TAPE for cd player 2

But never use the PHONO and TUNER inputs for your cd players

oh right - thanks
i understood never to use the phono or tuner inputs so i just presumed it was the same scenario for tape and aux :0)

With most amps these inputs (CD TAPE AUX) are identical.
For a cd player these inputs are actually too sensitve: when turning the volume knob on your amp at 9 o'clock it will sound already extremely loud.
A few brands like Quad en Meridian give you the option to adjust these input values to your own likings.

on my amp the phono/aux input is one and the same, take it i avoid this one and opt for either the av/dvd ot md/tape2 inputs with the second player then?

Yes, I would do that, although it wouldn't hurt if you connected your player to phono/aux I guess.
I'd go for md/tape2 of which I'm certain it is identical to the cd input.
