A few days ago, my computer crashed (blue screen) when I downloaded and started using Google Earth. Upon reboot, the screen is black -- but I hooked up an external monitor and everything looks fine. Once in a while the laptop screen also works, so I know it isn't totally dead. My Nvidia Quadro NVS 110m graphics card does not show up in Device Manager, unless I am in Safe Mode. In Normal Mode, all that shows is a generic "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" under "Other devices" -- with a yellow question mark covered with an exclamation point to the left of the words. I've tried all kinds of things to update the drivers for the Nvidia Quadro NVS 110m, but nothing is working. Please help, with clear step-by-step instructions, since I am not at all a techie. Sure, I can use my laptop while hooked up to my desktop monitor -- but that basically defeats the entire purpose of having a laptop. Thanks in advance for your help! Steve |

I've been working without my laptops LCD screen for about 7 months now as it stopped working. I had been using my external LCD monitor in this time and has been working perfectly fine. However, this morning the external monitor suddenly stopped recieving the signal as I was working away. I have rebooted the laptop, checked all the cables and used another laptop to check the monitor. All appear to be fine. On boot I can see on my laptops screen the dell logo and windows booting up with the screen being hazy (since the lcd on the monitor isn't working). I have ready that there maybe a graphics chip/card issue. Does this sound familiar? I really could do with the screen showing on my external monitor as it's my work laptop. I've had this for nearly 4 years now and it's a wonderful laptop. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance |
