Does it list as that in the BIOS, or just in Windows?

Thats interesting (in a not so good way). If nothing else from the clock speed fall, it should show up as an Athlon XP 1700+, not a Duron. So the main question is, which took a dump on itself, the processor (did it change its CPU ID, kill half its L2 cache, and change its multiplier????) or the motherboard being a piece of crap? I would lean towards the motherboard personally, but one never knows. Either way, flashing your system BIOS might not be a bad idea here.

about 2 mos ago i bought a new amd athlon xp 2000, which has a clock speed of 2000 MHz, i replace a amd duron 1000 MHz, i also had to update my bios f rom a f4 that i had to a f5

in the 2 mos i had it i did not have no error or crash, ontill i started to fool around with system mechic 7 last nite, the pit stop test show i did have a 2000 MHZ cpu then but not in morning, all i did last last was try system mechic 7

now to your post- even before i seem the new post on her a bout reloading BIOS, i had all really did that, i now have amd athlon xp cpu at 2000 MHZ

Woo Hoo, it had to be the system mechic 7 with all it fix this and fix that, and like a fool i did it, well never again will i use the prgram,- last nite i found it was not very true in report what i had on my compter, so one has to wonder just how good that prgram is, and my view right now is not very, i would not even give it a 2 out of 10 right now

but any way, re reloading the BIOS work, even before i seen the post, i fique it sure could not hurt, im not a newfie to compter, i all most build my compter from scatch now, and install window a few time, im not one to drop dead went i have a problem , i just try to fix, but this problem i never seem comeing, and had be a bit up in the air for a while

An AthlonXP 2000+ does not have a clock speed of 2GHz. Standard speed was 1.675GHz.

From the sound of it, you have some kind of power saving feature enabled, and it slows down the clock speed when you aren't doing anything intensive to lower power consumption. Usually you only see that on a notebook, but I'd check into it.
