my wife wants a laptop for work but we don't want something to pricey (under $800) but would like it to last a long time on batteries, be fairly light, at least 512mb ram but would prefer 1gb. as far as cpu goes any dual core would be fine. any suggestions?
Its mostly a game to see who is offering what specials this week. However, perusing the Dell website, I found I could price a Turion based system w/ 1GB RAM, a DVD burner, and a few other niceties of life and be within your price bracket. Their Core Duo (not Core 2, although it isn't much more) is also within your price range.
cool, but I'll really have to think about it.. i haven't had much luck with dells in the past. which cpu is better amd turion,amdx2, core 2, or core duo?
Core 2 Duo tends to be the best. The original Core Duo is pretty solid though, as is the Turion 2X. To be sure for most computing activities none of those processors will present a huge bottleneck in a laptop. Things like a slow hard drive and integrated video card will slow you down a lot more.
