If it does work again, you'll only have an hour or two before it thaws and the error returns. The reason freezing it will work is because the actuator arm in the hard drive is most likely scratching the actual platter. By freezing it, the actuator arm contracts and stops touching the platter-thus making operation possible. Keep in mind it only works if the actuator arm is bad, otherwise you most likely won't be able to recover your data unless you take it apart and void your warranty. |

New member Username: DprincessLondon, Uk United kingdom Post Number: 4 Registered: Apr-06 | oh my, hav u ever frozen an ipod? im sure that cant b healthy for it once it thaws, wont the water damage the disk?? |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2927 Registered: Apr-05 | It's worked for me, actually...I would suggest using a plastic bag if you're worried about moisture damage. |
New member Username: DprincessLondon, Uk United kingdom Post Number: 5 Registered: Apr-06 | i was just reading up about that and a site said that putting the ipod in a ziplok bak causes static and that dont sound too gd |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2929 Registered: Apr-05 | If you're freezing only the hard drive, static electricity may be a problem, but you're keeping the case on it, so static electricity isn't a concern. |

Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2944 Registered: Apr-05 | Refer to my second post in this thread. It's your only alternative; though you can try to sell it on ebay and get maybe 50-100$ on it. |
