I understand that the processor should be at least 2GHZ & 60-80-100 gig memory What brand do you suggest? Dell(I heard a lot of bed stuff) HP?Toshiba? I want one that burns & reads DVD & CD's. Maybe 17" screen size any things I should know first, Thanks in advance |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2326 Registered: Apr-05 | Toshiba has a great 17" model. I forgot the exact number, however. Sony also has one, but the specs aren't as impressive... Only get HP, Dell, Compaq if you're desperate... |

Are they accurate, I can't seem to find many educated consumer resources concerning notebooks. Consumer reports is great but is way too limited etc. Any tips? I own a Dell inpiron 8100, been awesome for almost five years now, thinking of sticking with Dell, any thoughts? |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2536 Registered: Apr-05 | Exactly! That's the horror of reveiws-they're highly innaccurate! Dell isn't terrible, but Toshiba is still a great competitor. |

Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2539 Registered: Apr-05 | But that comes at a severe restriction. They use PCchips mobos and anyone computer literate knows PCchips mobos=trash. Dell does many things to cut costs and just aren't worth it. |
Bronze Member Username: CuriousPost Number: 55 Registered: Dec-05 | Hey guys need some advice to. thinking of getting the apple pro powerbook the one witht the 15.4 inch screen is it worth the money or no i will be going to college soon so is really worth the couple of grand. |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2757 Registered: Apr-05 | Macintosh makes really good quality notebooks, but the price is a little too much in my opinion. What is more important, however, is how you feel about the operating system. I personally can't stand Mac's OS. I use multiple G5's and a few G4's during the day, and they freeze much more often than a Window's based system ever would. Additionally, the system's ease of use is only superficial. If you need to get to a more complex option, it's more difficult to find than a Windows system. Not to mention compatibility issues and expensive parts/accessories. |
Bronze Member Username: CuriousPost Number: 56 Registered: Dec-05 | so jexx what do you suggest my mom said my choices are sony, mac, toshiba, no hp,no dell, i dont no about gate way but what does it mean when it says the make has the intel chip is it like windows then. |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2761 Registered: Apr-05 | Sony and Toshiba are your best choices. Gateway is pretty bad. I'm glad you aren't considering HP/Compaq or Dell because they are trash. In my experience, Sony has a really nice design and the casing is high quality. The drawback to that is they are more expensive-they charge for appearance. Also check for their RAM speeds-they try to cover up slow RAM by providing more of it. Toshiba is my favorite out of the experience I've had with multiple laptops. They have great quality casing and most of the time their specs beat Sony's in the same price range. |
Bronze Member Username: CuriousPost Number: 57 Registered: Dec-05 | So what toshiba do you recommend for a college student. |
Gold Member Username: IlluminatorUSA Post Number: 2766 Registered: Apr-05 | What is your price range? Are you willing to buy from ebay? |
Bronze Member Username: CuriousPost Number: 58 Registered: Dec-05 | no more than 2000 bucks and a laptop off ebay is to risky i have purchased other things off of ebay though |
