well peeps im back after having disappeared from ecoustics for a while been working on pc stuff anyhow heres my latest success ...after having read alot of sites on cooling etc I got curious what my cpu temp was 49 degrees (not good) on an xp 1800 processor. So i decided to use some spare parts someone gave me fan wise from pcs he was going to thow away so i added a 120 mm fan to my pc plus leaving my stock 80 mm pc fan on the heatsink and whalla a 7 degree idle cpu temp drop and 1 degree case temp drop. I also had another 120 mm i could use but after experineting i found it didnt help at all it seemed so im leaving it out. My next experiment will be duct work aiming to lower temps further and lower fan noise slightly. Let me know if you all have any ideas or if you think this is good progress. ps overclocking is my next goal also but im just learning about that.

thanks,

well i have a p4 prescott and a fx5900ultra and 2 HDD's and 3 drives and tv tuner

put together its a whole lot of f****ng heat inside !!

i have a cabinet with a fan on its side and a rpm controlled one behind, below the smps fan. this was stock.
the intel active monitor always popped up sayin its over the temp threshold.

so i opened my cabinet.. removed the heat sink.. applied thermal paste.. ofcourse vacuumed everything.. and refixed it.
cut another hole right opp my fx5900 (below the other side fan) put another fan. and another below th rpm one. (total 3new + 2 old)
and another in the front below hdd (not in use)

i chnged the directions. one opp the cpu throwing air on it directly.. the one opp the fx5900 throwing air out of the cpu.. the other beloww the smps fan throwing air out..

if u can ake sense out of it .. it worked.. my smps is 400w so it can handle tht.

alternately use water cooled heat sink!!!

cool man i ahve another nvidia fx 5200 video card that the fan is going out in so im prob going to mod that card with a larger heatsink and fan all from spare parts........ps check out peltiers there doing cool stuff with them....im thinking of doing a fan cooled setup with the peltier without water cooling (water cooling costs too much)

check out these free apps speed fan, and cpu cool.

make the processor faster than stock settings which does make heat but i would now have 9 c of heat to make up before my original unmodified temp of 49c was reached again. and to top it all off i dont have any case fans this is all internal which makes it easier to quiet the pc not that mines loud now though
