How would i port a box to make it sound good? i heard that you can port a box all wrong and it can sound crappy. i built my own sealed box for it already but am deciding if i want to port it. How do i do it? do i just cut the tube according to the length required for that specific sub or what?

Ok first thing is that a sealed box for a particular sub is usually quite a bit smaller than a ported box for the same sub. example:
a 12: sub may use 1.0 to 1.5cu ft for sealed, but use 2-3cu ft for a ported box. That's average.
Now, the port is based on volume of the enclosure, after subtracting the displacement of both the port tube itself, and the driver in the box.
The frequency the port ends up being tuned to is dependant on that volume, as well as the inner diameter of the port, and the length of it, whcih comprise the volume of air the port will move.
here are some calculators:

By the way, use that EBP calculator to be sure your sub will even work in a vented box.
Not all subs work in any kind of box. some are sealed or ported specific.
