Inverting a sub, is it ok for it, or could it cause damage?

I want to invert my 12" sub, since I need to get a little more space out of my ported box. I know about reversing polarity and everything, I just wanted to make sure that inverting it isn't going to mess something up in the long run. So is it fine?
