One should be plenty unless you're a bass fanatic (like a 150 db fanatic), it also depends on the box you have and the power you're giving it. One 12" Brahma in a ported box by itself can hit mid 140s with the right power (given the right car to do it with, such as a hatchback)You can always buy another one later, so why not just give one a shot?
