Hello! I'm a novice to car audio, I have a 700 watt max Pioneer amp and a Rockford Fosgate stage 2 12" sub.
I have had the system for a long time but I have been through two alternators in the past five years and I believe the added power drain I've installed is the culprit.
Now my question: If I keep the gain turned down lower than it was before, let's say at 25% rather than 50%, will I be damaging my new alternator?
When I had to replace my alternator I asked the repair guy if he could get me a higher-output alternator, and he checked but said they don't have them for my car. I drive a 2003 Alero. At this point I really don't want to by a new alternator since this one is working fine.
You are unlikely to be able blow a stock alternator on that little power, you can get a deep cycle battery which could help but mainly have your electrical properly checked, if you always go to the same guy to check things up go elsewhere.
