I have a 2002 Buick Lesabre and i just hooked up a subwoofer and an amp. I have the factory deck in and used line output converters for RCAs. I dont want to run wires all over the car so my question is; What fuse can I connect to that does not have constant power?

Ok, here is a LOC that detects when you are playing a signal and turns on the AMP with it's own generated remote-on signal:

Also, since it's a low distortion device it will give better sound quality to anything it sources signal.

Having said that I would prefer by far an aftermarket HU, they are many excellent quality and cheap, take a look:

Do you know of any stores that might carry that converter? Also if I already have a line output converter hooked up right now would I be able to just add a driver?

I have only seen that function you require integrated in LOCs. I am not aware of any standalone device that performs this function.

You can order from that site but you will need to ask locally if you just want to go out and get it from somewhere.

Do you think this would work just as well?

Should work but I have no direct experience with it, it does not specify how it does it's turning on and off... anyhow I am sure that it will be better than what you have now.

Most likely you will need to do some extra wiring to the HU.

I think Im just going to keep what I have now and wire it directly to the ignition wire under the dash. The part I just showed you has a switch to turn on by how much current is running thru it so if the volume is too low it wont respond. The cache peice you showed me is a little expensive for me seeing as how its for a subwoofer so Im only pulling mono tone, idk this whole thing is tricky haha

Yes that can work, just the amp stays on as long the car stays on.. if you don't mind that then it's the cheapest way.

Honestly an aftermarket HU is the best way to go.

I would love to have an after market deck but then my steering wheel controls would be lost. To me those are not worth losing

That is not the case, take a look:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17946_PAC-SWI-JACKv1-New-Version-of-SWI-JACK .html

Obviously it will take some more effort and cash but you can have an aftermarket working with your vehicle's steering wheel controls without a problem.

If you are not doing this right now is fine but know you can do it if you can come by with the time and the cash later on.

There are many of those type of devices around, manufacturers have a compatibility list and installation guide for each car.

If you are a bit lazy with technical stuff you may not like to set that up though.

Im fine with hooking something like that up. Im still fairly new at this car wiring stuff but as Ive learned these past few days, things are as easy to install as everyone makes it seem haha

Ok just remember that you need a compatible head unit, from those listed I would recommend Alpine, best sounding, a bit more $$$ though, still you need to check the manuals to see what models do have the input for the interface.

Also you could check out this one which is easier to use (no programming), obviously you research a bit on it for compatibility.

I think your best bet is this for sound quality (but not touchscreen):

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_32848_Pioneer-AVH-P2300DVD.html

But it need a different controller which is this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18027_PAC-SWI-PSv1-New-Version-of-SWI-PS.htm l

or this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22808_Axxess-ASWC.html

For the previously discussed controller you can get a so-so HU which I don't really recommend but take a look since it has a touchscreen:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_24394_Jensen-VM9224.html

Or better this for some more money and also a touchscreen:

I still havent found a HU that I like but now that I know what steering wheel adapter I need, its been a little easier to decide. I have another question, what size speakers are in the front of my car? Ive looked on forums and websites but cant find that out
