New member Username: Xxsil3ntdeathxxPost Number: 1 Registered: Nov-11 | Ok, first of all, I do not have any clue when it comes to stereo systems and stuff like that. I have never owned one, so I need some advice. I want a pretty killer sound system thats affordable. I have a 2007 chevy colorado. My friend told me to get a new head kit and to get 2 type-r 12" alpine subs and a MRx-1000 alpine amp. Should i listen to him? I also looked at head kits and found a Pioneer p2300 dvd, which i thought the dvd player and ipod stuff was pretty awesome. There is also probably other stuff i have to buy like speakers and stuff but i have no idea where to start. Some help would be appreciated. Thanks. Btw i probably didn't put this post in the right place, but I wasn't for sure where to put it. |

When you say you want a sound system, are you saying you want to completely redo the stock system including highs and mids? What kind of budget do you have for the entire project? Are you handy with diy stuff or are you going to take it to a professional? |
New member Username: Xxsil3ntdeathxxPost Number: 2 Registered: Nov-11 | well thats the thing, do i need to get all new speakers? or can i just go with subs only? i can get about anything in my budget but i want to not spend 600-700 dollars on one thing when i can get something for 200-300 dollars and ill be just fine. I got a couple friends and relatives that know a bit on installation and all that but if they cant ill take it somewhere. another question is will i be able to run all this stuff without battery issues and stuff? |

The Pioneer you mention is excellent and very inexpensive, highly recommended: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_32848_Pioneer-AVH-P2300DVD.html Many Alpine amplifiers easily overheat (and blow) in less than ideal power conditions I would probably choose a different amp. You can upgrade your speakers for little money no problem. If your electrical system is in very good condition you probably won't run into problems. |
Silver Member Username: AlonzoubPost Number: 284 Registered: Apr-10 | Nope you don't need new speakers, you CAN just get subs if you want. If all you want is subs then the list goes: -Subwoofer(s) -Amplifier -Headunit (or Line out converter) -Wiring Kit (power/ground, remote, RCA, etc.) -Subwoofer Enclosure (self built or professionally.. I wudn't go with prefabs) I think the stock alt on an 07 colorado is 120A so you should be good to go up to around a 1000~1400 watt system with no issues. Joe raises a good point though, where do you plan on putting these woofers? how much space do you have LxWxH? Also what kind of music will you mainly be listening to? |
New member Username: Xxsil3ntdeathxxPost Number: 3 Registered: Nov-11 | ok yeah that is true I dont have much space. I dont really use my backseat though. Could I maybe put them on top of my seats? or do they have to be sitting on the floor? And I will be mainly listening to rap/rock. And you say I need to probably get a different amp, do you have any suggestions? |
Silver Member Username: Joe1234Post Number: 858 Registered: May-09 | Well if you unfortunately crashed that box would not be a good friend loose in the back. There are a few box solutions for your vehicle, take a look: http://caraudiofactory.com/-c-22_27_49.html?osCsid=a1fd144e1cf96c354dc6c0dbd12e8 c91 The other thing some people do is to take away the backseats and bolt a regular enclosure there. There are many amps but it all depends on the subs you pick which in turn depends on the box you choose. |
New member Username: Xxsil3ntdeathxxPost Number: 4 Registered: Nov-11 | I don't want to take my seats out if I don't have to, too much work. I found this though: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_detail.php?fit_id=1510 would this work? it would allow me two 10" subs instead of just one and able to keep my seats. |
Silver Member Username: Joe1234Post Number: 860 Registered: May-09 | Ok Bradley, that box has one driver only, JL Audio are great high quality products it's just that $599 for a single 10" prevents me from advising that. If you don't mind then buy that and be done with it. It can be driven perfectly by a JL Audio 500/1 amp: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10309_JL-Audio-Slash-v2-500-1v2.html There are plenty of 2 driver solutions besides the two I advised above, take a look: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=chevy+colorado+subwoofer&_sacat=0&_odkw=chev y+colorado+stealthbox&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313 I would put 2 of these: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22183_Image-Dynamics-ID10-D4-V.3.html Excellent amp for those subs: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_25339_MB_Quart_REF1800.aspx |
New member Username: Xxsil3ntdeathxxPost Number: 5 Registered: Nov-11 | This one is the only one that would work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVROLET-CHEVY-COLORADO-EXTENDED-CAB-2004-2010-12-SUBWO OFER-SUB-ENCLOSURE-BOX-/270826859265?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&vxp=mtr&hash=item3f0e 89eb01 mine is an ext cab. so i would have to get 12" subs |
Silver Member Username: Joe1234Post Number: 865 Registered: May-09 | Nice you found a big enclosure you can fit in your truck, you can use 2 Alpine SWR-1243D (the dual 4 ohm NOT the dual 2 ohm) as you planned, one adequate amp for this setup would be this: http://www.audioque.com/AQ1200D-Amplifier_p_30.html It just stays cool and goes easy on your electrical system. The Pioneer HU you chose is excellent, you can leave the stock speakers if you want but for better sound quality you can upgrade them, for extreme sound quality you should power them through an amplifier as well. |
