Hey everyone I just had a couple questions about dual layer capable DVD burners/drives. What are some brands to look at? And if I bought a new dual layer burner will it work with my computer without having to do or install anything else? Basically will it just be a plug and play type thing? I dont think the burner I have now can burn dual layer disks,or will any dvd burner be able to burn dual layer disks? Sorry Im a noob with computers lol. On the front of my burner it doesnt say anything about DL disks so Im assuming you have to have a burner that supports the DL disks.

I found a couple on newegg that seem to fit my bill, which is cheap,I dont want to spend a bunch of money on a new burner b/c most of the time regular DVD-R disks are enough for me. So what about these, most of the reviews are good but I just wanted a second opinion.

They have a bunch more around the same price range but out of the ones I posted Im thinking the first one,the Lite-On,would be good just b/c of all the good reviews and its the cheapest one. Is that a good brand? I dont need anything fancy or top of the line, just something that will burn dual layer disks.

Another thing,my computer has 2 cd/dvd drives, one is a burner and the other is not and then under both of those there is a dummy spot for a floppy disk drive. Would I be able to put the new dual layer burner in the place where the dummy floppy space is? If not could I replace the regular cd/dvd drive, the non burner drive, with the new dual layer burner and have 2 cd/dvd burners in my tower? My computer is a Dell Dimension E510 if that helps. One more thing, will the new dual layer burner take up a lot of memory or ram or whatever? Would I have to add more?

This will do:

They are so cheap, buy two getting rid of the ones you have.

Thanks but FYI newegg has that same model cheaper. I would rather buy it from newegg so I know its new and working. And whats wrong with any of the ones I posted? They are like 10 bucks cheaper than the model you listed. What is the difference in the ones I listed and the one you did? Is that one better, faster?

The one I recommended I know best and works great. Years back Plextor was the top burner but since they are all so inexpensive now, spending extra, not much of a point unless you use them heavily. Had an issues with LITE-ON and Sony before so who knows but I wouldn't recommend.
