New member Username: StreetrcrsoulPost Number: 1 Registered: Aug-11 | I have a 12 inch type r dual 4 ohm in a 1 cuft box, and I can't for the life of me find any definitive answer on what kind of amp I should get for it. Any help would be much appreciated. -BJ |

Gold Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 1193 Registered: Jun-06 | Here's a few suggestions, Audioque AQ750: http://www.audioque.com/AQ750-Amplifier_p_46.html Alpine MRP-M500: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12018_Alpine-MRP-M500.html Kicker ZX500.1: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21955_Kicker-ZX500.1-10ZX500.1.html Rockford Fosgate PRIME R500-1: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17368_Rockford-Fosgate-PRIME-R500-1.html If you ever plan on getting another Apline Type-R, then I would suggest looking into the Audioque 1200D. If not, then any of these other amplifiers will do. |
Silver Member Username: Joe1234Post Number: 110 Registered: May-09 | Alpine may have some overheating issues with some of their current higher power amps: https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/car-audio/687443.html I did check elsewhere and that is not an isolated case. |
Gold Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 1197 Registered: Jun-06 | I personally owned that Alpine MRP-M500 and I must say, it's a great amplifier for it's price. I never had any problems with overheating or any machanical failures. The Amplifier still worked great like the day I purchased it until the day I sold it. If anyone else is having issues with overheating on that specific Alpine Amplifier, it must be because of user error... |

Joe, if I did get the Audioque 1200D, would it be safe to run it on just the one sub until I decided to get another? Would this be a lot of wear on my battery? (I have a yellow top). Then if I did get the second sub, how should I wire it? Thanks, BJ |
Silver Member Username: Dloco486Post Number: 180 Registered: Apr-11 | do u have the 1243d or the 1242d. if it didnt cost so damn much ild say a kenwood 9104d. i got 1 and its good with my l7 but its an overated amp ild say it does around 550 @ 2 ohms. if u can find 1 for between 100 and 120 it should be good. |
Platinum Member Username: GlasswolfColumbia, South Carolina Post Number: 14440 Registered: Dec-03 | This is why I suggested the AQ1200D for a single 12" type R with dual 4 ohm coils. you'll be driving the amp at 2 ohms, which supplies just the right amount of power for the sub, and if you ever buy a second identical sub, you can wire it to the same amp in parallel, and the amp will have a 1 ohm load, delivering just the right power to both subs. 600W each. It's perfect for expanding from 1 to 2 subs. |

Your Yellow Top Battery should be fine, and you shouldn't have to worry about upgrading your electrical system with running it at 2 Ohms. If you do ever purchase another Type-R and create a 1 Ohm load, I would suggest looking into performing what's called the "Big 3" if you notice your lights starting to dim everytime it hits. Below is a link on how you would wire two DVC 4 Ohm Alpine Type-R's into a 1 Ohm load: http://images.the12volt.com/12voltimages/2_4ohm_dvc_1ohm.gif Below is a link on the "Big 3" if you wanted to know more about it: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1 |
