Also use a good amplifier for them. do not even consider trying to power them from a head unit. Personally, I went with a 3-way set from DynAudio with an 8" midbass driver for my front stage, and drove them with 300WRMS x 2ch @14.4VDC @4 ohms (Orion 2250SX) |

If you can snag a pair for $500, i'd say go for it. The only other Speakers I can think of that could compaire those with from Rainbow would be from the Vanadium Series Speakers and from Focal, well... the only thing close in it's price range would be the 165 VR3 which is a 3-way system. |

If you want midbass, you really want to give thought to a dedicated midbass driver in addition to your 2-way front stage. maybe a 7 or 8 inch pair of drivers with amplification as well. I typically cross over a 6.5" midrange for HPF @ about 120-150Hz, on a 12dB slope. Then you can set your sub's LPF to 50-60Hz with 18-24dB and lett the roll off from sub and midrange meet somewhere between those two points to fill in that gap. If you set the sub LPF to the same freq as the midbass or midrange HPF, you'll get a warm spot where they both overlap and play the same frequencies. This produces an overly warm, muddy sound to the lower vocal range. |
