You have 6.5" fronts and 6x9" rears. Requires shallows if you don't want to cut the factory grilles.

The mounting depth is 2 1/4" if mounted behind the factory grilles. 2 3/4" if surface-mounted (cutting the grilles out).

Many 6 1/2" speakers would be too deep for a factory replacement and would require cutting. However, you can get "shallow" or "slim" model speakers that will fit in the stock locations.

I have the same shallow problem with my 1999 Accord EX. What are some good sounding shallows?

Actually the rears are shallow, too, but they're inhibited by a similar cup/basket. The problem here is the install, which requires actually removing the rear deck.

Clipped from another site:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fold down rear seats.
Pull back carpet at lower area seat back and remove two 10mm from each side of passenger's side seat. Work out seat back from between hinges.
Remove a 12mm bolt from each hinge and remove hinges. Note positions of washers carefully.
Fold back carpet on rear seat back on driver's side. Remove two 10mm bolts and remove both seat backs as a unit. NOTE: They are connected by carpet.
Remove one 12mm bolt from hinge on driver's side rear seat back and remove hinge. Note positions of washers carefully.
Remove one 10mm bolt from rear of seat bottom cushion and lift rear of cushion to remove.
Remove one phillips screw and two retaining clips from each rear side panel. Carefully pry side panel outward to remove.
If equipped, pry off child restraint anchor covers and remove 12mm bolts to remove restraint anchors.
Pry up seat lock trim ring to remove.
Pry rear deack panel upward to release retaining clips. Pull out panel, disconnect third brake light wiring connector, and remove panel.
Remove four phillips screws securing speakers to deck. Lift speaker, disconnect, and remove.
Connect speakers wiring adaptor of replacement speaker to vehicle speaker connector. Secure speaker to deck with screws previously removed.
Test speaker operation and reassemble rear of vehicle by reversing diassembly steps.
The "shelf" behind the rear seats (where the speakers are).
