I was thinking of using 10 gauge wire to hook my sub to my amp. Are standard direct connects on the sub able to fit 10 gauge? I know 10 gauge is a little over kill but I was thinking of running my wire through my port so the wire would be ran a little longer than usual. If 12 gauge is just fine and I should go with 12, what is a solid choice in speaker wire to go with?
Hey Paul, do you happen to have any of the shok 1/0 left? I think I may need to run a new line to my trunk to have enough slack to hook up my second battery.
I run 14ga direct connection for most of the boxes I build, even 300w systems. I don't even build boxes w/ normal terminals. I see no use in stocking cheap terminals that tend to fail/melt when a drill bit and hot-glue are so much easier
But for any single sub 1200w+, I run 8ga power wire thru the box.
There is no real need for that big a wire, but IMO...there is no such thing as over kill.
8ga fits in the amp's terminals, so why not use it.
