Based on what I read above would indicate that if my radio is an alpine I will have to go to Mercedes to get the code I need. Do I have that right? I did try the codes provided by Hay88 and neither worked. The radio is prompting for a five digit code. So now I am just looking for confirmation that it is now time to go to Mercedes. Following is the serial# once more:
Radio serial number: AL 3198 X 01 14028 This is in a 1999 MB SLK230 Kompressor.
And the codes I have tried:
you can try if four digit code 5065 for five digit code 25163 but it's not 100% cause its alpine
Can someone tell me if these codes are calculated or just arbitrarily assigned?

Please note:
The majority of HONDA codes are NOT readily available as access is required to the original factory database which is not commercially available to buy
HONDA radios are made by the following manufacturers
The only Honda radio codes that are available to be calculated for free from anywhere on the Internet will be radios made by
BLAUPUNKT. These will have a Serial Number beginning with BP and another number beginning with 7 *** *** *** found on a label on the radio casing
UNFORTUNATELY ... NO OTHERS !
So you will be wasting your time posting code requests here for any other make.
BLAUPUNKTS ONLY with a BP Serial Number

For EVERY other HONDA radio made by one of the other manufacturers then visit the website below

If they cannot provide your code then you will have to try your HONDA Main Dealer or a Decode Service who will plug it into a laptop and electronically read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM
you need to remove the radio. they are too small holes each side of the radio use an old metal coat hanger 4 darts or very small screwdriver or long nails. put into holes about 4-5cms and push outwards sideways and carefully pull radio forward. you must do the holes on each side at the same time
Then post the numbers/letters from below the main barcode something like 7700xxxxxxtt123 or 8200xxxxtt123 or the security code like Q123 or T0U123 can be found in a small box then i can help you off of the radio

Hi there I am wondering if someone would be able to assist me with the radio code for my 1005 Renault Megane Grande Scenic. Ihave the following information:
Rrkcp the only CLARION code available for free (using a serial number ) from anywhere on the Internet is if your radio also has a BARCODE SERIAL NUMBER beginning with C 7000000 + + + + on a label somewhere on the metal casing.
If not then it will only be available from your Main Dealer or a Decoding Service or your local Car Radio / Audio Store who will connect a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM) inside your radio

Thanks hay88 for 1432 trouble shooting advice. I found a bad fuse under the hood, which also fixed the door locks.
But like an onion, this tale unfolds more and more. The 1432 head unit reports a code "E" when you change to the CD mode. The CD cartridge will not pop out. The lights in the CD unit itself do come on and illuminate the front plate of the CD player.
Hi! I changed my Opel Vectra car radio (CD was not working) with another (also original for Opel Vectra but used). It requires code. Manufacturer is Siemens. No:93176761 Type: CDR2005(E) There is additional mark (don't know if it's important): UY8
Hi there, I posted earlier last week but gave the wrong info! My car went in for a radiator replacement and after they disconnected the battery it now displays SAFE. It is a Siemens VDO CDR500 radio (the one that came with the vehicle) and the registration numbers on the back are: GM 13 107 918 PA6-GF15 Not sure which code to use? And if its any help whatsoever, it is an Opel Astra 2004 1.6 16v Sport.
