have a 1997 subaru legacy outback. 2.5 liter motor can't find any for my car, what can i do? it is a 2.5 liter and i see alts for 2.5's for newer years. is there any way to make one those work?
"This is a universal sytle fitting alternator! Modifications may be needed to install this unit on your particular application."
What kind of mods? Seems like a good deal tho. Hard to believe you cant find anything for the 2.5. They been making that motor for some time now. Did you try any of these?
DB Electrical DC Power H/O alternators Lestek Mechman Ohio Generator Powermaster Stinger Wrangler Excessive Amperage Iraggi Motor City Reman (MCR)
theres a few in that list i havent checked, ill look at their website. most don't have anything, only other i have found so far is dc power but they were around 600 and im not going to spend that much
well i checked out every single company and dc and power b were the only ones that had my car.. haha that sucks. i emailed power and hopefully he should let me know what i have to do to put that alt in. 110 idle and 220 at 1200 rpm's sure does look nice right now! especially at the price. i did some research on dc and their comparable model is a 250 amp alt for 550.. but their numbers sure do suck on it. something like 100 amps at 1600 rpm's and all the way up to 250 amps at 8000 rpm's.. now i will never get my car up that high, it wont even go that high. thats pretty horrible quality too me. so hopefully power b can help me out, or else i guess im stuck with just using big batts
the fitzall does NOT fit subarus without MAJOR modification... there was a horror story on one of the subaru forums about it... I know how you feel though, looking for an alt for my 03 legacy as well 2.5 flat four... meh
nobody local can rebuild anything decent for cheap. they all want 400 to 500 and the alt will stll basically suck. i might call exessive amperage. browsing through caco i do see a guy who is willing to sell the fitzall for 190 shipped which is not bad, and he said it cost him 80 to have a shop make a custom bracket for his car. so if i could stay around 300 with that option, i see it hard to be beat
you can also get a low relocation bracket and put it down below the AC pump, plenty of room will just need a tensioner pulley as well and longer belt...
