so i got a friend that paid 1500 for a system to be put in his car the system is a joke for that money the system is as follows no front stage,no midbass, stock headunit, bass knob installed badly, prefabed ported box some 600 watt mono amp(should be JL) and 2 JL audio 10s and 4ga Wire and this kid wanted 12s if he would have gone through bassman like i told him for a box and order his subs online he could get 12s to fit and be way happier than he is now(btw he is super pissed) i want you to give me exactly what he needs down to the last detail on what he would need for a good system for 1500 so i can show this kid what he could get for that amount of money
i was telling him what to get he is gonna try and get his money back so he can get what he wanted in the first place and the list would be so he can know what to get the 2nd time around after i already told him
skar audio is having a sale on their 600 rms subs. They are beefy as hell, look like a triple stacked motor from the pics, and they are designed by sundown. 135 shipped each, so 270 in subs. The previous suggestions also look good, though you could probably find a used saz or rf 1500 for 250 to 300. I would look towards cdt speakers and a 4 channel, then use the extra few hundred on upgrading the battery.
Other cheap subs are the Eclipse SW series (1.5 cuft each/sealed box) $150/sonicelectronix or the SSA DCON for $125 (12"/ported box). I'd buy two DCON 12's for a 4.5 cube ported box @ 30-35 HZ, a 600W (maybe at 2 ohms - they are SVC 4 ohm) amp, 2 1", 2 6.5", 2 8", and a 600W component amp. Any deck, doesn't matter to me. I would get a good battery and do the big 3. Not that the subs are entry level but I'd foreward fire everything and seal the trunk (trunk?) off to get the most out of them.
JL is some of the best stuff made its just expensive...most people are too cheap to really understand why quality cost more and would rather waste their money on buying multitudes of cheap crap trying to find something better for less instead of spending their money wisely and buying quality the first time...I personally think he did right in buying JL now he won't be trying to trade or sell it a month down the road because he realized hes bought crap....he did it right the first time
at least he didnt buy kicker. JL is top of the line as far as big name brands go, but there are plenty of other companies that make far superior equipment
Just ran a few #'s in my head...from me here at the shop...I could have got the kid:
2-DD12's w/ 600w DD amp, Arc KS6.5's, Arc KS6x9, DD 4ch, Hu, kits, wiring, my custom box, and installation for ~$1900...and that INCLUDES our local 9.99% tax (~$1730+tax)....depending on distro-blocks and what Hu kit(s) he needed.
Just 2-12, custom box, LOC, amp, amp kit, and install would have been ~$940...again including 9.99% taxes....(~$855+tax) And I charge $200 for most 2-12boxes and $85 for amp install.
There isn't a point in sealing it off if not everything is firing into the cabin. If there isn't a fold down rear seat than sealing all of the small holes (the sub/port firing in the trunk) will increase the dB's. So sealing it off either way, you get a gain. Where's the port?
the trunk isnt sealed they just cut the holes behinde the seats for some reason and now it uses the arm rest hole as a "port" in a way cause the subs are firing into the cabin of the car through those hole and out the arm rest hole even tho the rear deck part of the car isnt sealed off at all
yea i would figure so but he wont listen and i gave up trying to help the people he got it from put his head so far up his rear end he can see his molars so i gave up
