A Co worker has a nice sound coming from 2 blocks away with a punch 1500 on 2 hifonics 15's and surround sound. I told him that most only use front speakers for a concert sound, he say he prefers front & rear for surround sound. Question is, is front & rear better than just front?? Like 2 polk 200w rms for the pair in front vs 4 polk 400w rms front & rear? big or no noticeable difference? Think of it like sitting in ur living room recliner with a sound bar right under the tv vs. 2 front 2 rear 1 under tv & a subwoofer. Wouldn't you go for the 5.1 surround? In the car its either 2.1 which is good but 4.1 might be sweeter right?

a surround sound destroys the imagining and sound stage.
the idea of putting speakers in a car is to re create that concert type sound, at a concert you never hear music behind you its all in front of you..
i say why spend money on 4 or more speakers? when that just destroys the whole purpose of listening to music, you could put that money you would spend on multiple speakers into 2 and have much much better quality speakers that are going to do better at "recreating" that concert sound.
i say less is more, less money on speakers and amps to power those speakers, a good set of component speakers is all you need on a good sq 2 channel amp.
if your worried about it not being "loud" enough for you, you will be surprised.
many times i have compared my system which is 2 dls comps on an eclipse amp to other guys systems with 6 or more speakers powered by a headunit.. or some ghetto kind of amp and my 2 speakers drown out the others guys system completely, i mean their bass and everything, my speakers get extremely loud and sound 100x better than those 6 or more speaker systems

i used to run a 5.1 in my house but now i run a 2.1 system and im so so much happier with the 2.1
my friends cannot believe it at all that my house is crazy crazy loud and sounds so clean just from 2 speakers..
its all about the install and knowing what your doing man.
people think "well with a 2.1 i wont have the full surround sound effect" but with high quality speakers and proper placement ill tell you my 2.1 does very well, i never have a problem watching movies and noticing im missing surround speakers, the 2 speakers put extremely accurate sound in my whole room.
like i said less is more, its hard to believe but its the truth. hope that helps
you will get much better quality spending $500 on 2 speakers and an amp than you would 4 speakers and a 4 channel amp, you wont have just an average sound, you will have an amazingly wonderful sound that you cant get enough of, and when you jump into your friends ride with 8 speakers you will want to plug your ears because its sound so much worse than your 2 speaker set up that you spent less money on
