my subwoofer amp turns off when i turn my music up. it only happens when i play the song "over" by drake. heres a video on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOWlOy-K1dk

and it turns off @ 29 seconds on the video. but no other songs make it turn off. all the wires are connected. i tugged them a little bit and they are all secure. and no wires are touching each other. heres my setup if anyone needs it.

headunit : pioneer-deh-p7300
sub: p1 punch 8" 300 watts max.
amp: jensen ka 2200 200 watts.
factory speakers
and using headunit to power speakers.

i have 8 gauge wire going to the amp.

8 gauge is sufficient for 200 watts for up to about 25 feet which should be plenty in a car.

you find out if the alternator is overtaxed by using a digital multimeter ($15 from radio shack or harbor freight) and seeing if voltages are dropping below 12 volts DC while using the system.

also if you do buy a DMM, try to get one that reads "true RMS" or "AC voltage" (not all of them do, but it's not a big deal in price for one that does. It's just a feature you'll want)
