Not a great amp. Proof is here: * 800 Watts x 1 @ 4O Mono * 1200 Watts x 1 @ 2O Mono * 1640 Watts x 1 @ 1O Mono
A good amplifier would have a big enough power supply to double it's power at half the load. A good amplifier should have a power supply capable of at least three times it's rated power output in order to be able to supply enough juice to avoid clipping at high momentary output demands that occur suddenly. Here's a hint: If the amplifier is rated for 1600+ watts RMS, it should cost more than $200. A well built, massive power supply for an amplifier costs money to make, which is reflected in the cost of the amplifier. It also concerns me when the amp is listed with an MSRP of $999, yet it sells on Amazon for $219.95, even if it is a discontinued model.
I would be interested to see the rating on the fuses in that amplifier. Anyway if you want an inexpensive amp, then this will lwork, but don't actually expect it to deliver a true 1640 watts RMS @ 1 ohm. That's all. You get what you pay for, and I'd rather buy a less powerful amplifier that I knew was a solid product for the money, than buy the most watts per dollar that I can find on google.
Thanks GlassWolf, I have 2 RE AUDIO SEX12D4 that I need to push, and ideas on an amp that will do the trick. I wish money wasn't an issue, but kind of is at this point. I hear you on you get what you pay for, but maybe I don't need to go that big for this woofers, any ideas?
I don't know your coil configuration on the RE subs, but if they are both dual 4 ohm coils, you can get a 1 ohm load from the pair together, and that AQ1200D will do the job.
An alternative is one of the Sundown Audio amps. Better amp, bit more money.
1000-1500 watts RMS total would be a good range to shoot for with those two subs.
