Hes trying to add a subwoofer to his stock stereo, but his head unit does not have any rca outputs to run to the amp in the trunk. I told him he could get a high output to rca converter but im also lost in the clouds on this one. How do you undergo such a task? I'm guessing we will have to cut the left and right speaker wires from the stock stereo and connect them to the converter so that we can run the rca wire to the amp, but...how can we do this without messing up the left and right speaker connections? Remember, the stock speakers are still going to be powered by the stock head unit. All we want to do is be able to connect the rca audio cable from the head unit to the amp so that we can the new woofer we bought pounding. thanks for your input. |

Bronze Member Username: M_kimmel843Post Number: 21 Registered: Apr-10 | Just carefully splice the wires from the converter into the wires from the speakers by peeling back the coating to expose the wire. Either that or cut the wires from the speakers at a distance to where you can strip each end of the wire so, you could strip the wires end from the speaker and the wires end from the head unit. Then just take the wire from the converter and wrap or crimp all three ends together this will reconnect the wire from the head unit to the speaker while also connecting the converter. |

Essentially, it still does poke into the existing wire, but leaves a minimal footprint should you ever decide to remove the hi-lo converter and want the stock wiring looking as "stock" as possible afterwards. This is what it looks like: http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/4066DSC05049.JPG The metal part crimps into the wire, and you just clamp it shut with some pliers. After it's removed, all you do is put a small piece of electrical tape around the area that was poked and that's it. |
