ah. its junk. it's an amplifier and EQ in one, but those little amps never really put out that much power. They were closer to 25-40 watts per channel, and never very clean power.
Just get a dedicated amplifier and stick to that. You'll be glad you did.
if you have a good had unit, you probably don't rally need a pre-amp. I've used one in the past and enjoyed it, but a lot of that depends on how much you're putting into the system, too.
Mine was an Orion preamp, on Orion amplifiers, and they all used a proprietary DIN plug setup running on a 15 volt phantom power supply. It wasn't a typical setup.
man, i bet your setup sounded great at 15 volts though. most companies estimate full power output at 13-14.4 volts, right?
those amps were some happy campers
well i probably wont ever go with a pre-amp than. however i do need to up-grade my head unit.
i bought it in 2006, its ben fine, even now. but it is a sony.
the reason i chose it than was because it had front/rear/and sub outputs, along with a fully user adjustable 7-band EQ plus it was marked down from $369.00 to $199.00.
i have a jenson 7-inch flip out, but the sony has more adjustability.
well, the alternator put out 14.4, but the accessories for Orion stuff ran at 15V to raise the signal above the noise floor. Yeah it made the system silent without any music, so no hiss etc. It was nice and clean.
the crossovers, pre-amp, etc all used that proprietary DIN cable, and got power from the amplifiers, which supplied the 15 volts via the DIN cable to anything attached to them.
Zapco has a similar system now, called SymbioLink.
