Saturday, March 20, 2010 - 17:09 GMT type R are nice. Focal is very good. So are some CDT speakers.. the thing about speakers is that it's up to your individual ears. sound is very subjective. I can tell you this. To make ANY speakers sound ten times better, louder, sharper, crisper, cleaner, etc.. dump the head unit power, and get a dedicated amplifier to drive them. headunits only supply about 15 watts per channel with a lot of distortion.. regardless of what they try to tell you (60 watts per channel! no. just no.) a separate amp, with 40-65 watts per channel (2 or 4 channel) will be the difference of night and day, even on those type S speakers, which are nice speakers by the way, when fed properly.

Saturday, March 20, 2010 - 22:43 GMT don't bother with 3-way separates. you're talking $800+ for a decent set, then you need to do fiberglass work to aim them all properly to make them sound right by building speaker pods for them. On top of that., most sound better with a fully active system, so you're talking another $400+ for a decent 6 channel amp, or set of 3 2-ch amps, or a 2 and a 4 channel amp, etc.. just for the front stage.

Sunday, March 21, 2010 - 01:39 GMT when I said 3-way I mean separates. not a triaxial speaker. 3-way separates are a tweeter, a midrange, and a mid-bass driver, like this: http://www.dynaudio.com/eng/auto/esotec/3way.php

Sunday, March 21, 2010 - 05:46 GMT ohh, i didn't even think about a midrange, and a mid-base. like an 8" or something. now it makes more sense to me, thanks for clearing that up. and yeah, i dont have all the extra room or time. regular 2-way components would be ideal for me. thanks again

Sunday, March 21, 2010 - 17:42 GMT I've used Alpine's type R and type S components and enjoyed them. Alpine, when used with an amp, tend to have really good low end extension, with an aggressive treble response. Great stuff for rock and techno.
