Bronze Member Username: MaxkillaMalta Post Number: 60 Registered: Jan-04 | Which are the most frequency used in the SPL boxes and which can be the best in a Honda Civic Hatchback 91 ??? Is Anyone into SPL ? I just need to set a port hole for SPL... just to test the DB's again... but i need the Hz |

Bronze Member Username: MaxkillaMalta Post Number: 61 Registered: Jan-04 | How can i measure the best frquency for my car ? must i measure th inside volume ? |
Silver Member Username: Davids2004Houston, TX USA Post Number: 226 Registered: Jun-04 | Yea but dont go any lower then 45 hz. 45 hz is about the lowest you wanna go for spl. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 3777 Registered: Dec-03 | you need a signal tone generator and an RTA to measure for the ideal frequency for tuning for SPL. a good car audio shop should have this gear, and someone who can operate it. |

Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 3870 Registered: Dec-03 | if you're after SPL, I'd use slot vents. moves more air at high SPL, so as to avoid port noise. |
Bronze Member Username: MaxkillaMalta Post Number: 66 Registered: Jan-04 | How do u calculate slot vents ??? for the frequency ? |

Bronze Member Username: MaxkillaMalta Post Number: 68 Registered: Jan-04 | Hey glasswolf can you calculate me a 55hz port hole for a 2.4 cu ft box please cause i cannot do it ... |
Bronze Member Username: RedskinLondonEngland Post Number: 60 Registered: Dec-03 | Not being an SPL expert I'm not an expert at SPL ports. But going by other posts you need a large amount of port area to hit big numbers so with this in mind how about a 8"x8" square port 17" long. This will tune 2.4 cuft to 55hz.the shape of the port can be changed as long as the area remains the same ie. a 16"x4" port 17" long could be used instead. The amount of port area may need to be bigger if you are running serious amounts of power and/or large excursion subs. These are my opinions any one else care to comment. |
Bronze Member Username: JtbPost Number: 22 Registered: Jun-04 | I can't use the bcae1 calculator either. I put in Height = 12 Width = 18 Depth 1 = 9 Depth 2 = 12 Speaker Displacement = .07 Port freq = 35 Port diameter = 3(not sure what this is, I thought it was the diameter of the circle but it gives me a big error when I do diameter = 11 so I just leave it at 3) Number of ports = 1 (the measurements I put in are just for one side of the box so I guess Im right to put 1 instead of 2?) I calculate it and it gives me my net box volume as being 1.199. I can't trust that it is correct because it gives me this error **ERROR** Check your dimensions. The port is too long to fit inside the enclosure. You may need to use a curved port, less port area or a higher tuning |
Bronze Member Username: RedskinLondonEngland Post Number: 63 Registered: Dec-03 | Might have been a bit ambitious with port sizes for a small box. Try 2 4" ports 6.4" long or 1 6"x6" square port 8.4" long. both of these options tune 2.4cuft to 55hz. |
Silver Member Username: NewbPost Number: 148 Registered: Dec-03 | the pre-fabbed slot ported boxes ive seen at the local audio shop dont actually have a port. they only have a rectangular opening. what kind of material do u use for a slot port? for a circular port, ive heard ppl say use pvc piping... |
Silver Member Username: NewbPost Number: 149 Registered: Dec-03 | also does anyone know of any websites with pics of a slot port box? thx |
Bronze Member Username: RedskinLondonEngland Post Number: 64 Registered: Dec-03 | The rectangular opening is the port. For round ports use PVC piping. |

New member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6 Registered: Jun-04 | well kicker comp you didnt tell us the depth of your port but if its 2 in x 15.75 and zero depth its approx. 53.8 hz but i would assume that isnt your depth. Let me know or for that matter heres a site to help you all http://www.carstereo.com/help2/Articles.cfm?id=31 and heres another http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=isdonline later all i trust this will help you thanks, in search of bass |
