JL 10"

I have about a 9 year old 10" JL subwoofer in an enclosure they call the "Wedge." Can find no other identifying info, such as model or serial number. Used with a 50 watt Alpine amp (I think, but maybe it's higher. It is a 3 channel, 35 on each of the main speakers + the sub amp), same vintage. Worked well for my purposes, but the surround on the woofer has totally dissolved. JL says they "don't have the parts to replace it. Check with a local speaker repair facility." Anyone have ideas on the best way to get the thing working right without breaking the bank?

Not a gasket; the surround - the foam piece that connects the cone to the basket. I think its purpose is just to keep an airtight seal on the box, as it does not control the cone, but moves with it. Regardless, do people put new surrounds on speakers, or do I need to buy a new woofer (which is about 80% of the cost of the product)? If I need a new woofer, is there one that is cheaper than the JL replacement, that works as well, but maybe has a butyl rubber surround? I don't want to just stick some other 10" in the box if it is not a "match;" sound quality is far more important than volume or other characteristics.

Thanks, I appreciate both suggestions. I have some concern about keeping the balance right with the Gorilla Tape, especially trying to go around a circle with a straight piece of tape, but I will keep it in mind for the "Oops, I put my screwdriver through the woofer cone" situations I sometime encounter. As to the nicely detailed surround replacement "how to" demonstration, I would be tempted, but I found a local guy that has been in business for a long time that will re-cone for $48. After seeing the work involved in the "do it myself" plan, plus $48 in parts, I'll probably go with the local guy, that will have to fix it on his dime if he screws it up. I'll post the results, and name of the business, with a review after I get the sub back and use it for a couple of weeks. Again, many thanks for the suggestions.
