I am upgrading my sound system and am having trouble deciding on which speakers to get.

These are my choices on the front 4x6 door speakers.

1.Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X462C
2.Kicker KS460
3.Alpine SPS-406

And these are my choices on the 6x9 read deck speakers.

1.Kenwood eXcelon KFC X692
2.Kicker KS6930
3.Alpine SPR-69C

From what I have been reading all of the above speakers perform exceptionally well. That is why I am having difficulty in choosing which way to go.

By the way these will be teamed up with 2 Alpine SWR-1222D subs powered by an Alpine MRP-M1000 Amp. I am also at a toss up on head unit as well. But I am leaning toward the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X493 vs the Alpine CDA-105.

Which would you choose and why? Yes this is a 2 part answer. Don't reply if you are not gonna answer both.

and Rear 6x9

sony and kenwood are junk. I don't like 4x6s, but if you're forced to go that route, go with plates. 6x9s aren't that great either, nor are rear speakers.

you'd be better off just using kick pods and putting better speakers in front, like 5.25" or 6.5" separates.

sony?? there called explode for a reason, lol.

but...i agree with glass on this one. i hate 4x6's. they just don't give you what you need. and kick pods are a great way to add components if you dont have the room. there vehicle specific, and they can be matched to your interior color. id'e go with plates for the 6x9's atleast.

as for the head unit, id'e have to go with neither. but if you want a kenwood try the excelon KDC-X994, and foe an alpine try the CDA-117.

Wow figured this thread was dead. I went with JVC all the way around. 4x6 front door and 6x9 rear and head unit as well. I agree that 4x6 are not all that great. But it's what will fit the front door of a cavalier without modifying factory installation.

I also scratched the Alpine amp off of the list. Went with an MB Quart DSC1000.1 instead. Just have not fully decided on subs yet. As trunk space is limited for a vented enclosure. And not sure exactly what would sound good in a sealed. Alpine SWR 12 series is still an option though. But depending on enclosure i'm looking at JVC Arsenal 12's, Sundown Audio SA-12's and RE Audio SXX or SEX 12's as well.

I apologize. Some dork responded to the thread, and I didn't look at the original post date, so I figured it was current, and replied.

As for ported or sealed with a sub, look at the EBP or Qts, as follows:
Efficiency Bandwidth Product (EBP)
EBP = Fs / Qes
50 or less = best used in a sealed enclosure.
50 - 90 = flexible enclosure options.
90 or greater = best used in ported enclosure.
-OR-
Qts < 0.30 - ported
Qts = 0.30 - 0.50, use ported or sealed.
Qts > 0.50 sealed

If you look at www.ficaraudio.com for their subs, you'll find some fairly affordable, very well built subs that offer a range of options to fit the type of enclosure or setup you plan to run. They essentially tailor the sub to your needs.
