I have a 2 channel amp that puts out 550W RMS when It is bridged to mono at 4ohms. I have it hooked up to two 12 inch 8ohm DVC subs. Now, is this configuration Ok and how should subs/amp be wired ?

are they 8 ohm per voice coil or 4 ohm per voice coil because i dont think its possible if they are 8 per coil

wire the sub coils in series to get two 8 ohm subs
wire the subs in parallel for a 4 ohm load
bridge teh amp to mono and you're all set

that'll give each sub 225 watts

sorry I meant to say 275 watts each

Glass won't each sub get the full 550 watts? If not is there a way to do that?

"a 2 channel amp that puts out 550W RMS when It is bridged"

550w x 1 @ 4 ohms (bridged)
275w x 2 @ 2 ohms stereo
150w x 2 @ 4 ohms stereo

that's probably about what the specs are for the amplifier.
if you run two subs on a bridged amp, each sub will get half of the total power.
period.
to give each sub 550 watts, you'd need an amp that puts out 1100 watts bridged into 4 ohms.
simple math.

easy explination power is calculated by, voltage times current. then in parallel half the current is sent to each sub, when in series half the voltage goes to each sub

well, in a perfect world anyway.
you still have losses to heat to contend with. :-)
but most people don't understand Ohm's Law anyway so they don't really understand the differences between current and voltage, or resistance and impedance, or conventional flow and electron flow..
Sometimes it's better to just leave things as simple as possible.

think I could fit a cryo-tank in the trunk of a car?
we could supercool the amplifiers and see how much efficiency jumps!

muahaha
