Hi, my buddy and I are going to install two 1000 - 2000 watt 12" subwoofers in his car. We were planning to use a 1000 watt Kenwood mono amp to power them but we found out that they would only be able to power the subs and not the cars stock speakers, is that true? if it is then what amp should we use to power the subs and speakers? Is there already and amp in the car that we could just connect to the mono or would we have to get a multichannel? We were also wondering what the minimum size of the subwoofer boxes we should use are. any help with this would be very much appreciated!
model numbers of the equipment would be helpful. In general, yes, a mono amp will only provide mono signal to drivers, so unlesss you have 2 mono drive amps, and if they are full range mono, such as the Nakamichi PA301's, then you will only be able to play what ever is hooked up to it to its Freq cut off, which in most mono amps is around 100-150. So you will loose stereo if you use it for speakers. Best thing is to do a 2 amp set up, one on the sub, one on the speakers.
