New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 1 Registered: Nov-09 | I currently have a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm looking to put an awesome sound system in it. I picked out the equipment i want, but i would like to know if this is a good setup or not. Subs 2 Kicker CVR 12" Size (IN.,CM) 12, 30.5 Impedance (OHMS) 2 or 4 DVC Max Rec Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK/RMS)* 800/400 Sensitivity (dB 1w/1m) 86.7 Frequency Response (Hz) 25-500 Mounting Depth (IN.,CM) 6 5/16, 16.1 Mounting Cutout (IN.,CM) 11 1/8, 28.3 Min Rec Sealed Box Volume (CU. Questions -Is that amp good with those subs, or should i get less watt's? -Should i get the subs in 2 or 4 ohm? Difference? -Will i have to get a better battery for my car to handle this, I've heard no, but a few people said they did. I just have a regular battery that you put in a jeep. |

New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 3 Registered: Nov-09 | I am spending 300 for the 2 subs and the box and then 400 for the amp. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8372_Kicker+DCVR122.html and http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11553_Kicker+08ZX1000.1.html |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 4 Registered: Nov-09 | ok i looked around on the internet a bit and i also found this amp. Its about 100$ cheaper than the Kicker and its 300 watts more at 2 ohm. So it has come down to: (tell me what you think) Amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11553_Kicker+08ZX1000.1.html VS http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17654_Hifonics+BXi+2010D.html I think i am definitely going to go with the Kicker CVR 12" (unless somebody can give me a better option) http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8372_Kicker+DCVR122.html One question tho, if the RMS is 800 and the peak is 1600, i can safely do 1300 with that Hiphonics amp and those subs right? |
Bronze Member Username: Circa09skaterPost Number: 84 Registered: Jun-07 | the kicker amp is better than the hifonics |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 5 Registered: Nov-09 | Not trying to argue with you, but could you tell me why or how? |
Gold Member Username: BonhamdTraverse City, MI Post Number: 1979 Registered: Nov-07 | a lot depends on what you are trying to acheive. SQ - Sound Quality SPL - Loud SQL - A mix of SQ and SPL 2 audioque sdc2.5 15s 1 Audioque 1200D $527 Build your own box that is a good deal. brand new equipment directly from the manufacturer with good customer service and a great warranty. pending a good install - it will get loud |
Bronze Member Username: Circa09skaterPost Number: 85 Registered: Jun-07 | the hifonics will most likely produce less than rated power while the kicker will most likely produce more than rated power. Kicker is also known for building strong dependable amps, and hifonics are known to break for no real reason at all. Hifnonics just doesn't have the quality of kicker when it comes to amps. |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 6 Registered: Nov-09 | There are just so many options to choose from. I really do not know what to do. I am leaning towards the Kicker CVR 12" Subs and Box for $280 and Kicker 08ZX1000.1 for $380 only because so many people have recommended it and on youtube that setup is great. |
Bronze Member Username: Circa09skaterPost Number: 86 Registered: Jun-07 | also what Daniel Bonham said would make a great set up too |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 7 Registered: Nov-09 | Tyler do you suggest the setup i said? Kicker CVR 12" Subs and Box for $280 and Kicker 08ZX1000.1 for $380 |
Bronze Member Username: SkdooleyRoanoke, VA Usa Post Number: 84 Registered: Oct-09 | I'd recommend the AQ 12's also or Fi SSDs. I wouldn't go with the kicker comps. Even a pair of Alpine type Rs would be a better choice. For a box, there are people on the forum who can build you an awesome box for a good price. |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 8 Registered: Nov-09 | can anybody tell me what is exactly wrong with the Kicker CVR's and why i shouldn't get them. |
Silver Member Username: Simple_smithLapeer, Michigan United States Post Number: 159 Registered: Dec-08 | they're medeocre at best. and personally, i just think they look cheap. stamped steel basket anyone? and x2 on the audioque setup. |
Silver Member Username: JbpittPittsburgh, Pa. Usa Post Number: 169 Registered: Jul-09 | ^^^ I agree! Dont waste your money on kicker subs. Overrated & overpriced! Do yourself a favor an go with what was mentioned above(aq,fi,dd,type r) Now on the other hand, there amps are pretty good so you would be safe with that purchase. |
Bronze Member Username: Circa09skaterPost Number: 87 Registered: Jun-07 | the cvrs are not that bad of a choice. The main stuff from kicker to stay away from are their square subs because they are known to fail. But like mentioned above i think there are better choices out there like aq or fi. and definitely build your own box to the subs specs, it will bring out the true potential of the sub. |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 9 Registered: Nov-09 | I am really not trying to spend more than $700 for the setup, Box Subs Amp. I am not going for the loudest subs in the world, i just want something that hits pretty good, pretty much enough to make my rear view mirror vibrate. So basically my question is do CVR's do the job and do it good? |
Silver Member Username: Simple_smithLapeer, Michigan United States Post Number: 162 Registered: Dec-08 | Basically, the audioque setup is $527 + tax and would do the job better than the CVRs thats my $.02 so do whatever you want. |
New member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 10 Registered: Nov-09 | I think im going to go with the AQ setup, its got a few 100 watts more than the CVRs, just the only thing i need to figure out is how or where to get a box made |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7464 Registered: Nov-05 | your rear view can shake from 6.5s.. stay away from kicker. reason everyone suggests it is because its on every corner and flea market.. of course people will suggest all they know. |
Bronze Member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 11 Registered: Nov-09 | I am pretty sure im going to go with the AQ setup, the only thing i did like about the CVR's is that kicker made a ported box made for those subs. |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7465 Registered: Nov-05 | someone can give you a design.. and you can build one better for under $30 |
Bronze Member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 12 Registered: Nov-09 | I just looked at the AQ site, and they are out of stock on the 12"'s |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7466 Registered: Nov-05 | grab a pair of RE SE 12"s off ebay.. build a box tuned to 30hz.. you won't look back |

Bronze Member Username: PushinsubsPost Number: 13 Registered: Nov-09 | hahaha i never thought about getting 15's, im not trying to over do the bass, i just want somethin beatin |

Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7468 Registered: Nov-05 | well if you can afford it.. and have the room.. why not.. if your really on a tight budget.. you'd most likely be more than happy with a single 15" on 1000rms |
Silver Member Username: Boston_splHighland, CA United States Post Number: 144 Registered: Nov-08 | x2 on the Audioque & RE Audio setup. I've seen the dual compVR box setup you're lookin at, and just because Kicker throws them in that box, (which is mostly based on aesthetics btw) doesn't necessarily mean that that's an ideal box for those subs. Again, like you've already been told, don't waste your time & money on kicker subs. Even one Audioque HDC315 ($269) in a proper enclosure, will slaughter two CompVR's in SQ & SPL. Trust us on this. |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7469 Registered: Nov-05 | the system is only as good as the install.. so remember.. box is key. |
Silver Member Username: DangerangerFredericktown, Ohio United States Post Number: 188 Registered: Mar-09 | you wont be over doing the bass, you'll just keep wanting more and more and more, might as well do it right the first time, save you money and time in the future. |
Silver Member Username: DangerangerFredericktown, Ohio United States Post Number: 189 Registered: Mar-09 | plus you'll have a volume knob. so you can slowly ease your way into it. lol |
