Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 232 Registered: Mar-05 | hey all, this will be my first sound system ever. looking to spend probably 1500 max i think it's a good budget. that includes a new headunit, speakers, sub and box. its not really a limit, just a target area. i got the speakers covered and the head unit, but as far as a subwoofer(s) and an amplifier I am kind of stumped. i don't want the sound to be overkill but i want a good back massage if you get what i mean! can someone recommend me a good sub/amp combination that would suit me? i've heard setups with just 100wpc that were loud to me so i don't think i'm hard to please? thanks! |
Silver Member Username: Armykyle1Ms Us Post Number: 809 Registered: Dec-08 | Diamond D3 15s on a AQ1200, or step up to RD alpha's on a nice 3k amp. Are you wanting SQ-sound quality SPL- sound pressure level-loudness SQL-mixture What are your door speakers? Are they amped? Head unit? How much space do you have to work with? |

Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12215 Registered: Jun-04 | ok I looked up your vehicle and it has a 90 amp alternator. Id recommend the Dayton RSS315HF-4 12" Reference HF Subwoofer 4 Ohm since it has a low fs for those back massages and since it only needs 400 watts all you would need is a decent amp that puts out 400-500 rms at 4 ohms bridged. http://www.parts-express.com /pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-464&ctab=1#Tabs heres the amp http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-US-AMPS-XT800-2-V2-800-WATT-2-CHANNEL-CAR-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ390083472604QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item5ad2c96cdc&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 us amps # XT800.2 V2 400 watt RMS (800w peak) 2 channel bridgeable car amplifier # 800 watts peak output # 200w x 2 RMS @ 2 Ohms # 400w x 1 RMS @ 4 ohms # 100w x 2 RMS @ 4 ohms |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12216 Registered: Jun-04 | ps....If you decide not to go that route I wouldnt run an amp larger than 600-700 watts with that alternator with accounting for your vehicles basic electrical needs worst case. |
Silver Member Username: Armykyle1Ms Us Post Number: 811 Registered: Dec-08 | is it a reg cab? |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 233 Registered: Mar-05 | yes its a 97 dodge ram. head unit is going to be alpine cda 9887, the speakers most likely won't be amped. i'm unsure about the placement of the sub. i might have to just set it on the floor on the passenger's side, honestly. i think that might be the hardest part of my installation. what do you guys think? ![]() thanks for the sub and amp recommendation! |
Silver Member Username: WfbassStephenville, NL Canada Post Number: 131 Registered: Sep-08 | lol im sure theres a better spot to put it then on the floor of the passengers side![]() |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 234 Registered: Mar-05 | i would like to hope so wayne, but my cab is pretty small. there is room behind the seats, but i'm not very confident in just how much room, if that makes sense. i'm not sure where else to put the thing! lol |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 235 Registered: Mar-05 | is there any other 400w rms subs that someone might want to recommend? |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12217 Registered: Jun-04 | since you dont have alot of room this might work. heres a better sub a sound splinter rli 10 dual 4 ohm http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli10_subwoofer_information.html 0.65 cu ft net volume sealed wait and get this for 125 http://cgi.ebay.com/ALPINE-MRP-M500-CLASS-D-AMP-MONO-BLOCK-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ27 0458420468QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item3ef893fcf4&_trksid=p3286.c0 .m14 |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 236 Registered: Mar-05 | thanks sean, that seems like a great deal ![]() one last problem though, I don't have access to any tools to build myself a box. I can't find any websites that accept custom orders for boxes, and I don't think any shops around here will build me a box. I'm willing to dish out like 150-250 to anyone who wants to build me one though. I think that's a good price? |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12218 Registered: Jun-04 | What usable dimensions do you have for the sub box? |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 237 Registered: Mar-05 | where do you want me to measure? i could use the front of the passenger seat or i could measure behind seats.. not sure if i could fit a whole enclosure behind there though. thats about all i have to work with i think |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12219 Registered: Jun-04 | lets try behind the seat first. |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 238 Registered: Mar-05 | ok i'll go measure, i also think its possible to remove the center seat but i'm not sure how to do that yet ![]() |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 239 Registered: Mar-05 | ok i made some measurements, its about 60" across the cab, i have little over a foot of clearence from the back of the cab to about where the seats are. |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12221 Registered: Jun-04 | this is a sealed box that has external measurements and if I understand you correctly this will fit http://cgi.ebay.com/Single-10-Sealed-Subwoofer-Enclosure-Sub-Box-3-4-MDF_W0QQite mZ270372000546QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef36d5322&_trksid= p3286.c0.m14 |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12222 Registered: Jun-04 | my bad can you cut a .25 inch off the hole? If so the sub will fit. |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 240 Registered: Mar-05 | so, just clarifying, you are no longer recommending the dayton? or the usamps amp? |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12223 Registered: Jun-04 | no....the sound splinter is top notch and I like alpine for the amp duties its better than the cheapier line us amp i recommended. |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 241 Registered: Mar-05 | i don't have any tools to make any cuts, that why i was asking if anyone could build and ship me a box and i will pay them! i dont want to just buy a box that isn't meant for my subs and have it sound funny |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12224 Registered: Jun-04 | remember to get a dual 4 ohm sound splinter |

Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 251 Registered: Mar-05 | thanks sean, i still haven't received a phonecall. i used to have a website where you could get a quote on getting a box built, but i can't seem to find it on google anymore. i'd much rather have someone i can talk to personally do it though. if you know anyone else then thats great too! |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassYork, Pennsylvania Post Number: 12260 Registered: Jun-04 | Heres that other place i said i could tell you about. They make excellent boxes. http://www.fishercustoms.com/quote.html |
Silver Member Username: W00bPost Number: 252 Registered: Mar-05 | OK Sean- when i click 'get a design quote' it takes me to a page saying 'product not found'. Does that mean i need to email them or what? do you know if they are still taking custom orders like that? |
