hey all, this will be my first sound system ever. looking to spend probably 1500 max i think it's a good budget. that includes a new headunit, speakers, sub and box. its not really a limit, just a target area.

i got the speakers covered and the head unit, but as far as a subwoofer(s) and an amplifier I am kind of stumped. i don't want the sound to be overkill but i want a good back massage if you get what i mean! can someone recommend me a good sub/amp combination that would suit me? i've heard setups with just 100wpc that were loud to me so i don't think i'm hard to please? thanks!

Diamond D3 15s on a AQ1200, or step up to RD alpha's on a nice 3k amp.

Are you wanting SQ-sound quality
SPL- sound pressure level-loudness
SQL-mixture

What are your door speakers?
Are they amped?
Head unit?
How much space do you have to work with?

ok I looked up your vehicle and it has a 90 amp alternator. Id recommend the Dayton RSS315HF-4 12" Reference HF Subwoofer 4 Ohm since it has a low fs for those back massages and since it only needs 400 watts all you would need is a decent amp that puts out 400-500 rms at 4 ohms bridged.

http://www.parts-express.com
/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-464&ctab=1#Tabs

heres the amp

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-US-AMPS-XT800-2-V2-800-WATT-2-CHANNEL-CAR-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ390083472604QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item5ad2c96cdc&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

us amps # XT800.2 V2 400 watt RMS (800w peak) 2 channel bridgeable car amplifier
# 800 watts peak output
# 200w x 2 RMS @ 2 Ohms
# 400w x 1 RMS @ 4 ohms
# 100w x 2 RMS @ 4 ohms

ps....If you decide not to go that route I wouldnt run an amp larger than 600-700 watts with that alternator with accounting for your vehicles basic electrical needs worst case.

yes its a 97 dodge ram. head unit is going to be alpine cda 9887, the speakers most likely won't be amped. i'm unsure about the placement of the sub. i might have to just set it on the floor on the passenger's side, honestly. i think that might be the hardest part of my installation. what do you guys think? :-)

thanks for the sub and amp recommendation!

i would like to hope so wayne, but my cab is pretty small. there is room behind the seats, but i'm not very confident in just how much room, if that makes sense. i'm not sure where else to put the thing! lol

thanks sean, that seems like a great deal :-)

one last problem though, I don't have access to any tools to build myself a box. I can't find any websites that accept custom orders for boxes, and I don't think any shops around here will build me a box. I'm willing to dish out like 150-250 to anyone who wants to build me one though. I think that's a good price?

What usable dimensions do you have for the sub box?

where do you want me to measure? i could use the front of the passenger seat or i could measure behind seats.. not sure if i could fit a whole enclosure behind there though. thats about all i have to work with i think

i don't have any tools to make any cuts, that why i was asking if anyone could build and ship me a box and i will pay them! i dont want to just buy a box that isn't meant for my subs and have it sound funny

thanks sean, i still haven't received a phonecall. i used to have a website where you could get a quote on getting a box built, but i can't seem to find it on google anymore. i'd much rather have someone i can talk to personally do it though. if you know anyone else then thats great too!
