I have a Renault Megane that recently had a new battery.
Trouble is, when I go to enter the 4-digit code to make the radio work it won't accept entry of any of the digits.
I've done the procedure before so I know how to enter each digit (use the flywheel) & it does let me change the first zero to the correct number. However when I press the button that should make it accept that number & move on to the next digit (looks a bit like this: ) it simply ignores me.
I have read some stuff that suggests Renault radios can become permanently locked & have to be "re-coded" by the garage. I don't know why this should have happened but is it possible? If so, any idea what a Renault dealer will charge to fix this?
Totally fed up with this so any help very much appreciated.
Rang Renault who assured me 100% that it must be a fault with the stem & it would need to be replaced. I thought that was unlikely (bit of a huge coincidence) & that it was the stereo that wasn't allowing me to enter the code but Renault said it would be displaying ERROR if that was the case.
Anyway, this morning I tried yet again & after a few minutes of randomly trying to enter the code, switching the ignition/radio on & off, suddenly the display changed to CODE (instead of 0000). That was different so I waited & one minute later it went back to 0000 & this time it allowed me to enter the code & the radio burst into life.
Totally bizarre as I did nothing today that was any different to previous days. It shouldn't have been anything to do with a lockout timer expiring either as I'd even tried leaving the radio on for up to an hour previously just in case (I know that when you enter an incorrect code it locks the radio for 2-4-8-16-32 minutes consecutively).
Anyway, working now & don't believe what Renault tell you...
